HPM Atrahit Atrazine 50% WP – Product Guide

Atrahit is HPM’s Atrazine 50% WP selective herbicide. The registered Indian formulation is intended for pre-emergence weed control in maize and sugarcane. It must be placed early—within three days after sowing or planting—and the current label specifies one application. This timing helps manage the listed weeds as they begin to germinate rather than after a dense stand has developed.

Atrazine belongs to the triazine family and inhibits photosystem II in susceptible weeds. The current global classification is HRAC/WSSA Group 5, corresponding to legacy HRAC Group C1. Use the mode-group information for stewardship, but do not assume that every Group 5 product has the same crop approval or rate.

Mode of Action

After a correctly timed application, Atrazine is available in the upper soil zone where germinating susceptible weeds can take it up. It blocks electron transport in photosystem II, interrupting the photosynthetic process needed for growth. The result depends on the target weed, soil conditions, moisture, correct rate and uniform placement. Atrahit should not be promoted as a universal post-emergence rescue treatment.

Labelled Uses and Hectare Rates

The official Atrazine 50% WP label states a 24-hour re-entry period. It does not give a numerical PHI in this use table. Follow the label attached to the purchased Atrahit pack if it is more restrictive.

Correct Application Sequence

1. Confirm the crop and field area. Do not use in sorghum or another unlisted crop based only on a general internet description.
2. Select the crop-specific rate. The 500 g or 1 kg pack size is inventory information, not an acre-rate instruction.
3. Measure accurately. Use dedicated weighing equipment and avoid direct skin contact.
4. Dilute in clean water. Follow the leaflet’s mixing sequence and use the full 500–700 L/ha water volume.
5. Use a calibrated sprayer. The registered directions specify high-volume equipment with a flat-fan or flood-jet nozzle.
6. Cover evenly. Prevent skips, overlaps, runoff and drift. Avoid rainy, windy or hot sunny periods.
7. Restrict entry. Keep people and animals away for at least 24 hours after spraying.

Responsible Weed Management

Do not rely on Atrazine season after season as the only weed-control tool. Map escapes, prevent seed return, use clean planting material and integrate suitable mechanical or agronomic measures. If another herbicide is selected for a later treatment or future rotation, verify its crop and weed label and choose a different effective mode of action where practical. Product recommendations shown in the store are standalone comparisons; they are not a tank-mix instruction.

Use caution in areas with a high groundwater level and avoid application near aquaculture. Never increase the rate to compensate for late spraying, poor calibration or suspected resistance.
